Née en Iran, franco-américaine, Saïdeh Pakravan est auteur de fiction, poète, essayiste et critique de films. De cet auteur-monde est né Azadi, écrit en langue française, qui l’a enfin révélée au public français en 2015 et a été couronné par le prix de la Closerie des Lilas et le prix Marie-Claire. Elle publie ensuite La Trêve (2016). 

Aujourd’hui, Saïdeh pakravan a accepté pour la première fois de nous rencontrer pour nous parler de son troisième roman Le Principe du désir (Belfond).

Après une rupture avec un être abject qui a abusé d’elle pendant des années, Sarah Bly, artiste new-yorkaise, rencontre l’Homme, celui qui a tout, en la personne de Thaddeus Clark, collectionneur d’art à la renommée internationale. L’histoire pourrait s’arrêter là, ou plutôt commencer là. Mais Sarah en est convaincue : Thaddeus finira par la quitter si elle n’applique pas ce qu’elle baptise le Principe du désir.

La grande force de ce roman est de parvenir à maintenir le principe du désir presque tout le roman. C’est l’une des difficultés de narration que Saïdeh Pakravan maîtrise parfaitement au point d’emporter le lecteur dans l’intimité de ce couple, avec Thaddeus sincère dans ses sentiments et son expression face à Sarah qui souhaite coûte que coûte maintenir le principe, à n’importe quel prix. Au prix de l’amour ? Des blessures affectives ?

Un roman finement bien rédigé dans le milieu de l’art qui place le lecteur en tant que témoin de la relation des deux protagonistes dans le but d’ouvrir une réflexion poussée sur notre relation à l’autre quand le désir né entre deux partenaires. Que faisons-nous de ce désir dans le temps ? L’amour peut-il durer ?
